More Femme Fatale Tour Reviews

"Brit-Brit is back and better than ever... [She] did all her latest hits, some oldies and some totally unexpected songs from various albums, all while donning a handful of shiny (and damn sexy) costumes. Most importantly though: She danced. A lot. Gone are the days of strutting around the stage for the majority of the show; B knew her choreography and hit it hard. If you haven't gotten tickets yet, buy 'em. Sure, they may be a bit expensive, but Britney puts on a damn good show."

"There's a reason why the world fell in love with Britney Spears. It's because she can do it all. She can sing. She can dance. She can entertain any crowd. She's a timeless performer in the most classic sense of the word. Somehow, she's gotten even better at everything she does over the years, and her transcendent showing during The Femme Fatale tour's stop at the Honda Center in Anaheim illustrated that tenfold... Her own pop classics, 'Toxic' and 'Womanizer,' sounded simply scorching with all of the larger-than-life live production, and they solidified her place alongside Madonna and Michael Jackson as one of the most important singers and entertainers ever."

"From start to finish, Spears electrified the audience and the arena with a nonstop up-tempo and full-throttle 90-minute spectacular laden with pyrotechnics, crystal-clear video images, bump-and-grind choreography and some of the fittest male dancers on the planet."

"I Wanna Go" Music Video Premiere

22 June 2011

"I Wanna Go" Music Video Story

Britney Spears proved her comedic chops on the small screen in her cameo on "How I Met Your Mother," and now she's once again displaying her funny bone in the video for "I Wanna Go," which dropped Wednesday (June 22).

Like he did with Ke$ha before, director Chris Marrs Piliero makes off-kilter pop culture references and pokes fun at the idea of the sexy pop star. There's a number of Spears-related references, including a polka dot bikini top as an homage, perhaps, to Minnie Mouse, her skull-wearing Mickey Mouse ears T-shirt and a movie theater marquee that reads "Crossroads 2: Cross Harder."

Spears has touched on her relationship with the media in the past, but perhaps not with this much humor or self-deprecation.

The video opens with a press conference, where reporters ask the superstar crazy questions such as, "Is it true you banned junk food, smiles, candy, sunshine and laughter from your Femme Fatale Tour?" The answer: Yes, obviously.

"Can you confirm reports that you're pregnant with Brad Pitt's love child?" The answer: "That is false: It's quintuplets."

Eventually annoyed by the onslaught of increasingly dumb questions, Britney declares, "F--- you" to the reporters in the room. The only person who passes the test is "Weeds" and "Half Baked" star Guillermo Diaz, who is hanging out, wearing a hat that only the Burger King could love. She then dashes out onto the streets in her Avril Lavigne-worthy, pop-punk princess finest.

It seems Britney has decided to live life on her own terms. She grabs the bum of an autograph-seeking fan. Then, she flashes a group of men, and as a cop tries to arrest her, she has her way with him right there on the street. Britney just doesn't care anymore, and why should she? She's finally having fun.

Britney displays the sass and charm fans fell in love with a decade ago during performance shots, where she flirts with the camera, her eyes as big and wide as her smile.

Fans are back with her as she makes her way around town and, of course, the paparazzi have found her. For one photographer, she gives an impromptu fashion shoot before smashing his camera. And when she finds herself surrounded by more of his cronies, she takes them out one by one with any singer's best weapon: her microphone.

There's a surprising turn, however: As the mic slams itself against the photogs, pulling the skin off their bodies, it reveals that they are cyborgs, much to Brit's dismay. So, what's a girl to do?

She's rescued by Guillermo, who drives her through the desert. She dances in the car, wearing only a bikini top and miniskirt. And just when she thinks she's safe, it's revealed that he too is a cyborg. Can't Brit ever catch a break?

The video returns to the press conference, where the pop star awakes from a daydream and reveals, "Guillermo, I had the strangest dream."

"I love dreams," he tells her. "And seashells," he says, placing several in her hand. "Come on, let's get out of here."

But, is Britney truly safe with Guillermo? In an homage to the final frame of Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller" video, the clip closes with Diaz turning his head toward the camera to reveal his red, glowing robot eyes.

Britney Captivates Los Angeles

Britney Spears is back. Not that she'd entirely left, mind you.

But the Spears that captivated the audience at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on Monday night was the old, fun-loving, free-wheeling Spears - with a sexy, showgirl twist. There wasn't much pretense, though those glamazon outfits blinded in the best way possible. Instead, there was just good dance music.

Spears opened her Femme Fatale Tour last week in Sacramento, and for the most part she stuck to script. There was flash and substance, and Spears appeared as the 29-year-old version of her former self, looking amazing in bedazzled leotards, barely-there cutoffs and midriff-baring outfits.

Show openers Jessie and the Toy Boys, Nervo, and Nicki Minaj set the stage for what was to be a fast-paced night. In her own skintight outfits, Minaj did exactly what an opening act should do: whet the appetite for the main course.

For Spears' part, she went through about nine songs from her most recent album, Femme Fatale, opening her set with her lusty dance track "Hold It Against Me."

She spent nearly two hours grinding her way through a series of her biggest hits including "3," "Piece of Me," "If U Seek Amy" and a remix of "Boys." A highlight of the night - though, let's face it, nearly every twist and turn she made was met with ear-piercing shrills from the Spears Faithful - was when she straddled a larger-than-life-size guitar to perform a cover of Madonna's "Burning Up." And she nearly brought the house down when she performed "Slave 4 U" with the original choreography (minus the snake).

One tweak, perhaps, from last week's shows, is that instead of having Minaj appear via video for "Till the World Ends," the rapper joined the pop singer onstage.

There were times throughout the night when it was obvious that Spears was lip-synching, but no one in the audience seemed to mind one bit. They were there to be served a shot of Spears straight-up. And they got what they came for.

Femme Fatale Tour Reviews

On Thursday night, Britney Spears declared herself a Femme Fatale, launching her tour in Sacramento, California. Having already garnered praise from critics who attended her dress rehearsal, Spears got more rave reviews from music journalists who attended the kick-off show.

In addition to the glitzy costumes and high production value, Spears flaunted her stage chops, sashaying to songs like "Hold It Against Me" and "Big Fat Bass," as well as old-school jams like "Toxic" and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know."

Describing it as "her flashiest, fastest moving, and most entertaining production yet," Rollingstone.com said that while tour-opener Nicki Minaj brought her signature sass, "The night belonged to Britney: She managed to prove that she's still progressing as a showgirl. Not only that, she's doing it better than even die-hard defenders would've predicted."

The Sacramento Bee explained that while "Spears performed like a pro throughout the show, hitting all her marks, she had shown hesitancy in her movements - natural for the first stop on a tour. But that hesitancy vanished when she put on the denim. She seemed at ease."

The best review of all may have come from Spears herself, who enthusiastically took to Twitter to thank her fans: "Can't sleep. WAY too much Adrenaline right now. Sacramento was on fire tonight. You ready San Jose? Cause I am!!!!"

Once she wraps her San José, California, tour stop on Friday night (June 17), Spears will take her show to Los Angeles on Monday. The U.S. tour dates wrap up on August 25 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The Femme Fatale Tour then heads to Europe in September for two more months before closing on November 9 in Portugal.

Femme Fatale Tour Rehearsals Video

12 June 2011

Femme Fatale Tour Dress Rehearsal

E! Online's Marc Malik was one of the lucky people to be invited to the very first Femme Fatale Tour dress rehearsal on Friday June 10th. Read his experience below:

Britney Spears is looking super hot.

How do I know this? Because last night I was among just a handful of people invited to watch the pop princess' first-and very private-dress rehearsal of her upcoming Femme Fatale tour.

Before I give ya some of the highlights, just let me say that if you don't have tickets yet, run and get them now.

Why? Read on for scoop...

The show opens with a video of Spears in a sparkly leotard (one of many skimpy outfits that shows off her back-in-shape bod) being chased by cops through an industrial landscape. And yes, Britney's brandishing a gun. Think Salt meets Charlie's Angels.

The song list includes more than-ready for this?-20 songs. She starts with "Hold It Against Me," followed by, well, everything, including "...Baby One More Time," "I'm a Slave 4 U," "Toxic," "Gimme More," "(Drop Dead) Beautiful," "Big Fat Bass" and "Till The World Ends."

Spears covers Madonna's "Burning Up" while straddling a gigantic electric guitar. She sings Rihanna's "S&M" in a flamboyant motorcycle gear (denim, leather, studs, etc.).

Footage of a slightly older, grizzly faced fellow in what appears to be some sort of Cold War radio transmission bunker is shown throughout the show. He says things like, "Bring your best game because tonight you and I are dancing a vicious dance," and asks, "What man are you bringing to his knees?"

Other video highlights include shots of completely naked men (just butts-no full-frontal, people!) and her male dancers in what can only be described as S&M leather gear and toys, including facemasks and nipple clamps.

All of her dancers-male and female-help keep the energy (a lot of it sexual!) going with gyrations, contortions, the aforementioned nakedness and lots of sweating. Special shout-out to Marco Da Silva-holy ridiculousness of tattooed muscles!

During "I Wanna Go," a bunch of us were brought on stage to dance with Britney. Yes, I can say I danced on a stage with Britney Spears! And so can my pals from Pink is the New Blog, BreatheHeavy.com, Just Jared and Ellen K. from Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM morning show, among others. Who else was there? Spears' hottie boyfriend Jason Trawick (he even got on stage during "How I Roll" to be tied up and straddled by his girlfriend), dad Jamie and Brit's two adorable sons, Sean and Jaden.

The finale is insane. I won't tell you exactly what happens, but it includes big, white angel wings.

There's so much more to see and hear. Spears sings, dances and gives you some of her best work ever. Like I said, get your tickets now!

Britney Is Really Excited For The Tour

After giving fans a taste of the Femme Fatale stage setup, Britney Spears is opening up some more about her tour, just days away from its big launch. In an interview airing Wednesday night (June 8), Spears says that she's working hard to make sure that everything goes just right for the tour, which kicks off on June 16 with Nicki Minaj."I'm really excited," she told "Entertainment Tonight." "I'm probably going to be extra nervous the day before. We've been working hard for, like, two months now, and everything's coming together really good."

Spears has been working out and trying to get herself into tip-top shape so that she can get through the dance-heavy set. "It can be kind of [grueling], especially when you're onstage and you're on your eighth number," she explained. "You get really winded and you're like, 'How can I do the rest of the show?' But I've been training for a while and I actually - before I come to rehearsals - I've been working out and stuff like that so I won't have that predicament. I run a lot." Online footage shows the singer practicing dance numbers for "Up n' Down," "(Drop Dead) Beautiful" and "How I Roll," which includes props and high-energy backup dancers.

So, what does Britney need to stay grounded and relaxed on tour? "My pillow from home," she said, giggling. "I have to have my pillow and I love watching old episodes of 'Sex and the City.' As long as I have all the seasons with me, I can go to and watch them and be entertained on the bus. That's a must-have."

In addition to the tour, Spears is on the brink of releasing her latest video off the album, for the track "I Wanna Go." She hooked up with director Chris Marrs Piliero for the clip. On the cover for the single, the former Mouseketeer appears smiling, her hair down with some funky multicolored highlights in it, wearing a barely there mini-shirt emblazoned with a skull with Mickey Mouse ears.

A Glimpse At The Femme Fatale Stage

Wondering what the Femme Fatale Tour will look like when it kicks off next week? Well, wonder no more! Britney Spears offered up a tease of the stage in a new video posted online.

"Oh my God!" she squealed walking into the room seeing the setup for the first time. "I love it!"

Spears walked the stage with her managers, giving fans a taste of what's to come once the shows kick off June 16 in Sacramento, California, with opening act Nicki Minaj. The stage has it all: lights, video screens, a funky neon-colored floor, lasers, lifts and giant butterfly wings.

"It's beautiful," Spears said as she listened to her music blast over the loud speakers and checked out the way the lights and video would play during what appears to be a reworked version of "Hold It Against Me" that included more electric guitar.

"The Femme Fatale Tour will hopefully just be outrageously spectacular," Spears recently said about the multi-city arena tour. "I'm just hoping that the choreographers will come up with just the most outrageous things, and I'm really excited. ... This is one of the most excited I've been about a project in a really long time, so I can't wait."

Minaj is just as excited about the tour, and she knows she has to go big to match the spectacle of a Britney show. "I'm just trying to put more theater on that stage. So much to me is music, but it's also about putting on a show, so that's my goal: to truly put on a show and incorporate theater and dance," she explained. "I think it's pretty easy to take it to the next level ... I think I'm nowhere close to where I could be as far as my shows have been."

Spears' longtime manager Larry Rudolph teased the tour's theme months ago when he spoke to us in Las Vegas before Spears played a mini-set for an excited room of fans at the Palms Hotel and Casino. Even then, Rudolph knew Brit's track "Till the World Ends" would play into the theme.

" 'Till the World Ends' keeps becoming a theme for us," he said back in March. "The way we come up with a concept for a show like this is we sit with Britney, she talks to us about what she's interested in and what excites her. We start with the songs on the album; we start with coming up with general, broad concepts. She tells us what interests her and excites her."
