Britney Announces GMA Performance
Britney Spears has announced her first live television performance to promote her March 29 album release, Femme Fatale. The day the album drops, Spears will hit the stage for "Good Morning America," she shared in a video message for her fans.
Wearing a nude-colored bandage dress and a heart necklace, Spears got right to the point in the 24-second clip.
"Good morning, America," she said, her voice sounding a bit low and hoarse. "I'm excited to tell you on Tuesday morning, March 29, I'll be performing for the first time ever in a special concert in San Francisco's historic Castro district on 'Good Morning America.' And I promise you it'll be a morning to remember. See you soon!"
Spears appeared on "GMA" in December 2008, on the day she released Circus, and performed tracks in an over-the-top spectacle of a three-ring circus.
Though she has yet to do any interviews to promote her latest single, "Hold It Against Me," the star recently shared that she had every intention of making the press rounds for Femme Fatale. In a recent Twitter chat with fans, Spears revealed her plans. "I'm doing a lot of promo," she said. "I'm thinking about the tour right now, and I would [love] to visit a lot of places I didn't get to go to on my last tour."

"Hold It Against Me" World Premiere
It's not a stretch to call "Hold It Against Me" the most anticipated video of Britney Spears' 11-year career; after all, how many of her clips were preceded by a two-week teaser-thon that drove tens of millions of video streams and fans to the brink?
It's too soon to tell where the video will settle into Ms. Spears' pantheon of visually innovative music videos: pop-culture touchstone like " ... Baby One More Time" (the schoolgirl outfit) or "Oops! ... I Did It Again" (the red-leather catsuit), the darkly foreboding "Everytime" or über-sexy "I'm a Slave 4 U." Either way, it manages to outgun all those clips - and pretty much everything Brit's done since her 2007 Blackout album - in terms of sheer spectacle, while, at the same time managing to display an amazing amount of restraint.
Because while it covers similar themes of many of her videos - the constant spotlight under which Brit lives her life (see "Piece of Me," "Circus," "Womanizer," etc.) "HIAM" feels less heavy-handed. Sure, there are cameras, TV screens and microphones surrounding Spears at all times, but they're merely set pieces. We get the idea without having said idea shoved down our throats.
And much of the credit for that is due to director Jonas Åkerlund, who bathes Britney in a shimmering light, wraps her in a towering gown and eventually covers the entire set in DayGlo liquid spilling out of Spears' fingertips. Sure, there are also plenty of dance moves and special effects, too, but because of Åkerlund's deft, downright organic touches, "HIAM" also feels oddly elemental. The dress (from which she births her dancers), the fluid that flows from her fingertips, the softness of her hair and makeup - it all envelops the video's harsh, technological framework. There is a warmth to it, a heart that beats beneath the shiny veneer. And for a futuristic space-odyssey dance fantasy, that's saying something.
There are also the personal touches too: Check the monitors playing Britney's older clips, but most of them are doused in liquid and cast aside. And when coupled with perhaps the video's most organic moment - at clip's end, when Spears, covered in amniotic fluids, curls up in the fetal position - you get the feeling that "HIAM" also seems to contain messages of rebirth, re-emerging and beginning anew.
Yes, Britney also looks plenty hot, and the dance moves are sure to displace a hip or two, but at the end of the day, what puts "HIAM" on the pedestal of Spears' all-time best clips are the human touches. It looks great and it's certainly the biggest-budget thing she's released in a long time, but it's also restrained and controlled - still under the spotlight, but reborn and ready for the fight.
There's genuine art to it, which makes it both beautiful to look at and powerful. She's not wearing a schoolgirl outfit or leaping out of airplanes, but she doesn't need to; not anymore. So while it's too early to know whether "HIAM" will be your Britney favorite just yet, give it a few years - you might be surprised by how well it sticks.

A Look Back At Britney's Videos (3)
In anticipation of the premiere of Britney's 'Hold It Against Me' video, we look back at her epic Madonna collabo.
In 2003, Britney Spears and Madonna decided to get their dance on together for Spears' lead single off In The Zone. It was a collaboration that came together after the pair locked lips at the VMAs that same year.
"I was in the middle of rehearsals for the VMAs and I played her the song, and she was like, 'That's your first single, right?' " Britney recalled. "I was like, 'Yeah, hopefully.' She was like, 'I really like it.' I was like, 'Really?' I was like, 'Well, you wanna do it with me?' She said, 'Yeah.' "
From there the idea was born and director Paul Hunter was tapped to try to capture the magic that had everyone buzzing after that now-famous kiss.
"Madonna is an icon of an earlier generation, and then Britney of the newer generation ... She was at her peak at that point," Hunter told MTV News in 2009 about the video. "So it was a challenge to kind of bring both of the worlds together. I wanted it to be a bit of a cat-and-mouse sort of game, and a little bit of a foreplay between Britney and Madonna, and just sort of tease the audience."
When Spears spoke about the video while on-set, she explained that the intention was always to tease the audience. "I never actually see Madonna or touch her; I just feel her presence there," she said. "[The song is] basically about just going to a club and letting yourself go and battling with whoever is around you and battling against the music as well. This is my first time doing a collaboration, and it's with Miss Madonna herself."
Hunter admitted that it was all about keeping it sexy, without actually going there. "I try to play opposites, when you have Britney in dark and Madonna in white," he said. "And then we see them kind of dance around the bed ... and you think they're gonna get on top of each other and do something crazy."

A Look Back At Britney's Videos (2)
In anticipation of the premiere of Britney's 'Hold It Against Me' video, we look back at her classic 2000 clip.
Who would have thought that a red piece of latex would mean so much to a pop star. For Britney Spears, that skintight garment was something she wanted to make sure made the final cut of the ultra-glossy video for her 2000 smash hit "Oops! ... I Did It Again."
The video's director, Nigel Dick, reminisced in a 2009 MTV News interview about Spears' request for the now-unforgettable red-latex catsuit. "[She said,] 'I want to be in a red jumpsuit. I want to have a really cute spaceman, but there can't be any rockets,' " he remembered. "There was another catsuit, actually, which was fantastic, which I loved, and the night before, I was told that Britney hired this guy that worked with Michael Jackson. And so we're going to use that catsuit. So that's the catsuit."
As it turned out, making sure that they got the suit right wasn't the only dilemma for the director. "There's a bit about the Titanic in the middle, and I was like, 'What are we going to do about that?' " he recalled, laughing. "And she says, 'Don't worry. You'll sort it out.' "
The video was a high-profile project for Spears and Dick, who had a lot of pressure on them to top clips like "... Baby One More Time," which he also directed. " 'Oops! ... I Did It Again' was the first single from her second album, so there's definitely the sense that this is Britney's second album," Dick added about the expectations surrounding the video's 2000 release.
"This whole idea was my idea," Spears told MTV in 2000. "I was like, 'I want to be on Mars, dancing on Mars.' It's really futuristic. It's going to be the first video that I've done to have a lot of special effects. I think it's more mature. It's edgier. It's funkier. It's fun."
The shoot didn't go as planned, as a now-infamous on-set incident left the singer injured. "There was a camera, and there was an overhead shot, and they were filming me and the camera fell," she said. "And it kind of knocked me out, and there was drama ... but it was fine."

A Look Back At Britney's Videos (1)
In anticipation of the premiere of Britney's 'Hold It Against Me' video, we look back at her iconic 1998 clip.
It's hard to believe that in 1998 a schoolgirl uniform caused so much trouble, but that's just what happened when a pouty Britney Spears donned the now infamous costume in her video for "... Baby One More Time." Well, it seems Britney had some idea that the costume idea would make the video memorable.
"My idea originally was just jeans and T-shirts, and we were at the wardrobe fitting and Britney holds up the jeans and T-shirts and says, 'Wouldn't I wear a schoolgirl outfit?' " the video's director, Nigel Dick, told MTV News in 2009. "Every piece of wardrobe in the video came from Kmart, and I was told at the time not one piece of clothing in the video cost more than $17. On that level, it's real. That probably, in retrospect, is a part of its charm."
In 2000, Spears spoke to MTV News about baring her belly in the clip, noting that it felt like the most natural thing in the world to do. "Me showing my belly? I'm from the South: You're stupid if you don't wear a sports bra [when you] go to dance class, you're going to be sweating your butt off," she explained. "It was such a wonderful experience. All these people there, working for you. I had my own trailer. It was an amazing experience."
Spears was then an unknown pop singer and Dick had already established himself as a music video guru. The decision to work with Spears left many perplexed. "My response was, 'It's a great song. I don't know anything about Britney. I never watched 'The Mickey Mouse Club.' She seems like a great kid and she's very enthusiastic,' " he said. "But I just love the song. It's just a great song.
"I decided to try this idea that someone had thrown at me and they hated it - they absolutely hated it," Dick said about the video's simple setup. "So I jumped on the phone with Britney and she says, 'Well, now I think it should be about me in school and there should be lots of hot boys around,' and that was pretty much it - oh, and a bunch of dancing. And my response was, 'OK.' "
In a 1998 interview with MTV, Spears revealed that she wanted the video to reflect the lives of her fans, so she wanted to set it in a school. "The first idea we had for the video was so off the wall," she said. "I was like, 'I want something a lot of kids can relate to.' It's just a fun video."
That same year she noted that as soon as she heard the song, she knew she had to record it. "It's a song every girl can relate to," she said.
The song was recently featured in the "Britney/Brittany" episode of the hit show "Glee," with Lea Michele playing the Britney schoolgirl role.
Before Britney Spears debuts her music video for "Hold It Against Me" on February 17 on MTV, MTV News is taking a look back at some of the singer's most memorable videos. The new much-anticipated clip will air on MTV and MTV.com Thursday at 9:56 p.m./ET, right before a new episode of "Jersey Shore."

Britney Working With Will.I.Am
Days after his glow-in-the-dark Super Bowl XLV halftime performance, will.i.am is already working on his next high-profile gig: a collaboration with Britney Spears. After the "Hold It Against Me" singer tweeted about the team-up Tuesday, the Black Eyed Peas' leading man opened up about his studio session with the pop princess.
"I just came from the studio right now," Will told The Associated Press. While hesitant to give away details, he did gush about the tune, emphasizing the song's place in today's music scene. "It's a monster," he said. "It's mean, pretty, edgy, next level. But the beat just ... It's that beat. She's singing fresh over it. It's something that today needs."
While many fans were pleased to hear about the pop partnership, some weren't so keen on a tweet will.i.am posted shortly after Spears' collabo announcement. It read, "I just found out some people don't tweet themselves they have teams of tweeters for them ... Wow."
After Team Britney went after the producer, he clarified his sentiments: "Britney tweets for herself I saw it with my own eyes when we recorded in the studio today," he wrote. "She's such a sweet heart she's a perfectionist. You guys read into things way to hard ... shame on who ever thought I was talkin about britney ... so sad people want to start things."
In the end, Will reverted the focus back to his tune with the pop star, tweeting, "The song I did with britney is ganna be crazy fresh. from the super bowl to the studio workin on a mega smasher. can't wait till its done."
As Britney continues her daily tease-a-thon for the "Hold It Against Me" video, which will premiere February 17 on MTV, her collaboration with will.i.am might be one of her final studio sessions in completing her new album, Femme Fatale. Scheduled to drop March 29, the LP is expected to include production credits from Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Rodney Jerkins, Stargate, Fraser T. Smith and Bloodshy & Avant.
One producer who might not be making the final cut, however, is William Orbit (Madonna's "Ray of Light"), according to one of his latest tweets. "did a song w Klas Ahlund, who wrote 'Piece of Me'. And is killa. But not on FF apparently. But a good song is a good song regardless," he wrote.

New Album Titled Femme Fatale
New York, NY - Britney Spears announces her seventh studio album is titled Femme Fatale. The iconic global superstar's title Femme Fatale is a tribute to bold, empowered, confident, elusive, fun, flirty women and men. It's not a conceptual album, Spears is letting the music speak for itself. She's worked hard on it for two years and she considers it to be her "best album to date," true to where she is now personally and professionally.
Femme Fatale (Jive Records) is executive produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke.
Spears is peerless among her contemporaries. Throughout the years, Britney has consistently released hit after hit for over a decade, selling close to 70 million albums cumulatively worldwide.
Few artists have earned the distinction of having five No.1 debut albums, and 24 Top 40 hits. She most recently set a new one-day precedent for single sales with her current No. 1 hit song, "Hold It Against Me." Jonas Åkerlund shot the video for the song.
Details on the video premiere and album release date are forthcoming.

Dr. Luke Reveals Info About Album
Britney Spears announced today that her new album, due March 15, is titled Femme Fatale - but the superstar singer and her Los Angeles producers are still choosing songs and determining the final direction of the overall sound. "It's not done," Dr. Luke, co-producing the album with longtime Britney collaborator Max Martin and Montreal dance-pop songwriter Billboard, tells Rolling Stone. "We're in the middle of it right now. It's a little bit fluid right now. I can't even say at this stage what songs for sure are making it and what songs aren't. We're working with a lot of producers and overseeing it with her A&R and record label and management and trying to make something cohesive."
The album, of course, will contain "Hold It Against Me," co-written by Dr. Luke, Martin and Bonnie McKee, the hot songwriter who penned Katy Perry's "California Gurls" and Taio Cruz' "Dynamite." Spears' new single made its debut on the pop charts in mid-January at Number One, before dropping to Number Six last week.
Originally, Dr. Luke and Martin, the Swedish songwriter behind some of Spears' biggest hits, including "...Baby One More Time," planned to give the song to Katy Perry. "We might have played it for her, but it definitely wasn't a Katy Perry record," Dr. Luke says by phone from Conway Recording Studio in Los Angeles. "We had it for a while. I wanted to make sure it didn't sound like everything else I've done. I brought it into Billboard, and he just killed it. It can be hard in the verse, and the bridge is super, super hard, but the chorus is super-pop. You can play that chorus acoustically on a guitar and it's still going to sound great."
Top 40 radio stations continue to spin "Hold It Against Me" in regular rotation. "It feels like a really obvious, easy-to-listen-to first single," says John Ivey, program director for KIIS in LA, which played the song once an hour the first day it came out. "You hear all those little parts that are so Britney - 'here's the video-breakdown-dance part of the song.' That's what my listeners love about her."
Although her 2008 album Circus sold fewer than 2 million copies, not a huge number given Spears' history of blockbuster sales, retailers have high hopes for the March release. "[Circus] ended up doing well, but we were a little cautious about it - a little tense comeback issues were going to be relevant," says Mark Hudson, music buyer for Trans World Entertainment, who predicts the new album could sell 500,000 copies in its first week. "But this time around, her stock is higher."
Dr. Luke also noted that he and Martin, the executive producers, plan on working on several songs directly in addition to "Hold It Against Me." He also confirmed Bloodshy (who co-produced Spears' classic "Toxic") and Benny Blanco (who worked on Ke$ha's "Tik Tok" and Perry's "California Gurls") were among several big names who would make production appearances.
So far, Spears has dropped by the LA studio two or three times to lay down her vocals. "Britney's really fast," Dr. Luke says. "She gets it done."
